BSP commence PNG’s 50th celebrations with staff engagement activities

In the lead-up to Papua New Guinea’s 50th Independence Anniversary, BSP Financial Group Limited (BSP), the country’s largest bank, has commenced a series of staff engagement activities to mark this national milestone.

On Friday 27th June, BSP hosted a vibrant Trivia Night for staff, kicking off its anniversary celebrations in true PNG spirit—bringing together 42 teams across PNG for a night of friendly competition, national pride, and unity.

This month, July has been dedicated to “Toana July”, where every Friday is set aside for staff across all BSP branches and business units to proudly showcase traditional wear. Today, Friday 4th July 2025, staff nationwide turned up in style, incorporating traditional headpieces and necklaces as part of their BSP uniforms in celebration of PNG’s cultural identity

BSP Group General Manager for Corporate Affairs and Community, Hari Rabura, shared that the Toana July observance will feature themes such as traditional PNG dress, billum wear, and cultural tattoos across the remaining Fridays of the month. This initiative is a tribute to the nation’s rich and diverse cultural heritage and a reflection of BSP’s pride in Papua New Guinea’s traditions

“As an institution, BSP has grown with Papua New Guinea over the past five decades, and we’re proud to play a part in continuing to shape the nation’s progress. From driving economic growth, financial inclusion, and supporting the prosperity of individuals, families, and communities – our commitment remains strong.

“As we mark 50years of independence, we celebrate not just our nation’s journey – but also the everyday contributions of our people, staff here at BSP who make that journey possible,” Ms Rabura added.

BSP will continue to roll out internal and community-focused activities throughout the year as part of PNG’s 50th anniversary commemorations.
